The Promise- Trailer

The Promise– Plot & Synopsis

Erin Matthews, a British teen, prepares to take a break from her studies and decides to have a gap year. She is unwilling to meet her grandpa Len, who is in his seventies and has been paralyzed due to a stroke. Erin has never met him, but when assisting her mother in clearing out his flat, she discovers a diary from his time serving in the 6th Airborne Division in British Mandate Palestine following WWII. Her mother intends to discard it, but she keeps it secretly. She accepts her closest friend Eliza’s invitation to visit Israel while undergoing basic training for her mandatory Israeli military duty. As they take off, Erin begins reading Len’s diary, which begins with Len detailing “the worst day of his life so far” — the tragedy of freeing the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. The series then alternates between the two storylines as they progress, with hers taking place in 2005 and his in the 1940s. She went to modern-day Israel and Palestine to learn more about her military grandfather’s role in the closing years of the British mandate in Palestine.
