What is the series about?
After the police halted the investigation into her son Martie’s hit-and-run death on the Isle of Wight, Frances Cairns resolves to track down his killer herself. Pretending to research for a novel, Frances befriends Lena and learns that the driver might have been Lena’s brother-in-law, George Rattery.
Frances finagles an invite to a birthday party at George’s luxurious home, where she finally confronts the man she suspects of killing her son. There, she also meets George’s sister, Joy.
Meanwhile, DI Nigel Strangeways, struggling with PTSD from a colleague’s death, is newly assigned to the Isle of Wight’s Newport Police Station. He informs Frances of the decision to close her son’s case. At the same time, he learns of a complaint filed by his late colleague’s sister, accusing the police of negligence, further complicating his situation.
