The storyline of this show is based on Kosei Arima, a 14-year-old piano genius who gains fame after ranking first in multiple events. Kosei had a nervous collapse during his piano performance when he got the news about the death of his mother. Since then, he hasn’t performed in two years and only sees everything without colors. He enjoys spending some of his time with his buddies. Kosei encounters Kaori, who is 14 years old and a musician. She is bold and encourages him to start performing again. She demonstrates how much expressive and revolutionary his performance can be. Kosei swiftly realizes he has developed feelings for her because she tries to boost his morale.
She fell during a concert and was shifted to the emergency room by the medics. The next day she told him that she fell due to her anemic condition and required routine medical examinations. Her condition worsens day by day, and she begins to lose hope of surviving. When Kaori hears Kosei is performing in an event with a buddy, she decides to undergo a dangerous operation which can be fatal, in the hopes of performing in an event with him again. Kosei sees her ghost joining him while performing at the Internation event finale and understands she died in the middle of her fatal operation.
Kaori’s family provides him with a note stating that she was aware that she would die and would become free from this painful life. She acknowledges that she saw Kosei play at an event when she was around 5 years old. She had become completely obsessed with his performance. The note also contains a picture of her returning from the performance when she first saw him. Kosei found himself standing in the backdrop of that image, and he framed that image as her memory.

The cast of the anime series is led by Natsuki Hanae as Kousei Arima and Risa Taneda as Kaori Miyazono.
