Sony’s second trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has broken viewership records. Not only is it the most-viewed trailer within the Spider-Verse franchise, but it also holds the record for the highest viewership of any recent Marvel film’s second trailer within 24 hours and the most-viewed superhero film trailer this summer.

The trailer, released on April 4, 2023, on YouTube and has already amassed 21 million views, surpassing the initial 48-hour view counts for upcoming superhero films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Flash.

Other recent Marvel films trailing in second trailer viewership include Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (121.6M), Thor: Love and Thunder (98.1M), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (84.8M), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (83.8M).

Across the Spider-Verse is the first of two planned sequels to the 2018 Oscar-winning animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which grossed over $384 million worldwide. The sequel follows Brooklyn’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore), as he reunites with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and encounters a team of Spider-People responsible for protecting the multiverse’s existence.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will hit theaters on June 2, facing competition from A24’s Past Lives, Blue Fox Entertainment’s dramedy Rise, 20th’s Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman, and Vertical’s sci-fi thriller Simulant. A third installment, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is slated for release on March 29, 2024.
