Roku Channel Secures The Spiderwick Chronicles Exclusive Streaming Rights Following Disney+ Cancellation

After Disney+ opted not to pursue it, Roku has stepped in to secure the exclusive premiere rights for the highly-anticipated series The Spiderwick Chronicles in the United States.

This fantasy series, comprised of eight episodes and based on the beloved books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, is scheduled to make its debut on the Roku Channel in early 2024.

Developed by Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television (a Disney subsidiary), the series had been seeking buyers earlier in the summer. The Spiderwick Chronicles tells the story of the Grace Family, who relocates from bustling New York to the tranquil setting of Michigan, taking up residence in their ancestral home, the Spiderwick Estate. It’s within these walls that they stumble upon a hidden, magical realm.

Featuring a star-studded cast including Joy Bryant, Noah Cottrell, Lyon Daniels, Mychala Lee, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Christian Slater, the series is brought to life under the watchful eyes of Executive Producer and Showrunner Aron Eli Coleite, with Director Kat Coiro at the helm for the initial two episodes.

Additional executive producers include the original authors DiTerlizzi and Black, as well as Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, Julie Kane-Ritsch, and Grace Gilroy.

“The Spiderwick Chronicles, an awe-inspiring saga of adventure featuring standout performances by Christian Slater and Joy Bryant, is poised to captivate exclusively the Roku Channel audience,” declared Brian Tannenbaum, Head of Originals at Roku Media. “With its meticulous production and a narrative brimming with magic, we are thrilled to present this series to viewers worldwide.”

Nicole Clemens, President of Paramount Television Studios and Paramount+ Original Scripted Series, expressed her delight over the series finding a home with the Roku Channel, commending the platform for its enthusiastic collaboration.

She is confident that audiences will be enchanted by the mesmerizing characters and the captivating world carefully woven by Showrunner Aron Eli Coleite, truly capturing the essence of the beloved books.

The Spiderwick Chronicles will join the roster of original content on the Roku Channel, alongside titles such as WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story, The Great American Baking Show, and Die Hart 2: Die Harter.

Furthermore, Roku recently sealed a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to broadcast a variety of shows, including Westworld, The Bachelor, Cake Boss, Say Yes to the Dress, and FBoy Island.
