There were 3 main casts in the series. The Lead character was Courage – A dog who is the protagonist of the show (voiced by Howard Hoffman in the pilot, Marty Grabstein in the series). He was abandoned as a puppy and left in an alley, where he was later discovered by Muriel Bagge, as described in the opening credits. He plays the reluctant hero whenever supernatural or alien forces threaten Muriel and Eustace, despite his portrayal as a “cowardly dog.” then there was Muriel (Voiced by Howard Hoffman within the pilot and Shea White within the series) Owner of Courage. A kind and gracious grandmother with Scottish accents. She loves to cook and clean sit in her antique chair and plays sitars. Last, yet not the least is Eustace Bagge (voiced by Howard Hoffman inside the pilot, Lionel Wilson in the series, later Arthur Anderson in the series, and by Wallace Shawn in “Fog of Courage”) — Muriel’s significant other; a remorseless, childish, possessive, antisocial, disagreeable old farmer. Eustace hates Courage (whom he refers to as “Stupid dog”), pulls cruel jokes on him. A repetitive gag in the series includes Eustace putting on a Swahili-like mask and shouting “Ooga Booga!” to frighten Courage.
