How Many Seasons of Attack On Titan Are There?

Illustrated by Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan is a recently concluded anime that has been declared the greatest anime of all time by many after its last season premiered last year. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has built huge walls to keep out the ginormous humanoid titans whose diet involves humans. The story follows the exploits of our young protagonist, Eren Yeager, and his friends, who decide to fight the titans.

One of the few animes that are to the point and have no filler episodes, Attack on Titan represents a new age in anime production. Lesser episodes but much more developed animation.

How Many Seasons of Attack On Titan Are There?

As far as watching Attack on Titan in order goes, you don’t have to go around jumping to and from between seasons and specials to follow the storyline in order. AoT has a simple and straightforward storyline, with one season following from where the previous season leaves off.

The entire anime has 3 full seasons and season 4 in two parts.

Attack On Titan Season #1

The first season was adapted from Isayama’s manga and spanned the storyline of the first six arcs. It was spread over 25 episodes and started off with the Armored Titans invasion, and we see Eren losing his mother to Colossal. The young boy, full of anger, escapes with his friends Armin and Mikasa. Eren wants revenge, and the only way he can get strong enough to get it is by joining the Survey Corps.

The Survey Corps is a special group of humans that are trained for the explicit purpose of fighting the titans directly.

The first season was so phenomenal, from storytelling to animation to the soundtrack, that even though everyone was looking forward to it, they believed that the second season couldn’t possibly be an upgrade.

Boy, were they wrong?

Attack On Titan Season #2

The first season was released in 2013, and the second in 2017. Ask any fan, and they’ll tell you every day of those four years waiting for the second season was well worth it.

Every sequence of Eren fighting along with the 104th Training Corps to protect the Wall Rose from the Titans was downright impeccable. There were plenty of plot twists and betrayals that no one saw coming.

Attack On Titan Season #3

The fans thankfully didn’t have to wait as long for the third season and got it in 2018. But unlike the first two seasons, it was split into two parts.

The first part, with 12 episodes, was released between July and October and covered the Royal Government arc.

Meanwhile, the second part, with 10 episodes, was released between April and July 2019 and covered the Return to Shiganshina arc.

With some mindblowing revelations, you’ll be left reconsidering and questioning everything you know about the series. It was so good that it is credited with having taken AoT from being an amazing anime to being an all-time great. It is still considered the best season of the anime, and because it set the bar so high, the fans were left disappointed with season four.

Attack On Titan Season #4

Coming to season four, which was also released in three parts. The first part started airing in December 2020 and had 16 episodes covering the Marley arc. The second part was released much later, between January and April 2022, and had 12 episodes covering the War of Paradis arc. The third part has only two hour-long episodes, the first of which was released in March 2023.

Keeping up with the highest of standards, the first two parts did justice to the storyline with outstanding character development, tying up loose ends of the plot, giving rise to new questions, and leaving us with a frustratingly perfect cliffhanger.

The animation remains top-notch, and the soundtrack backs up the storyline perfectly, and a few minor hiccups in animation were remedied as soon as they came up.
