Race History and Stats
The Baku City Circuit hosted the 2016 European Grand Prix, the first Formula One Grand Prix in Azerbaijan. In 2017, the same venue was the first Azerbaijan Grand Prix site.
In addition to the Singapore, Monaco, Australian, and Canadian Grands Prix, this was one of five races held on street circuits during the 2017 Formula One season. Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull won the first Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton won the 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix on April 29 in the season’s 4th round.
On April 28, the 4th round of the 2019 Azerbaijan Grand Prix took place. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 race was postponed in March of 2020 before being canceled later. Azerbaijan hosted the sixth round of the season in 2021.
No Formula One driver has ever won in Baku twice so far, although the race was won twice by Mercedes (2018 and 2019) and Red Bull (2017 and 2021).
