What to Expect from Love & Death
In 1980, Allan Gore was on a business trip when the authorities found his wife dead. The woman had been murdered in the most gruesome fashion: stabbed more than 40 times with an ax. The horrible event, which shocked the entire country, became even more macabre when the victim’s friend and neighbor became the primary suspect in the case.
An Extra-Marital Affair Turns Into Obsession
Candy and Betty were friends, though unbeknownst to the latter, their relationship changed when the former started having an affair with Allan. The trailer for the television series highlights Candy being jealous of Allan spending time with his family, though she pretends to be happy and unbothered to keep up with the charade.
Their extramarital relationship soon took a turn for the worse when Candy, who was frustrated with her suburban life, became obsessed with the couple. The friendship between the two women also began to grow weaker.
What Happened That Night?
One summer night, someone struck Betty down with a deadly weapon. The investigators found that she had suffered 41 blows from an ax. They also soon figured out that Candy was the last person to see the victim alive. She had arrived at her friend’s house shortly before her body was discovered, brutally chopped, and disfigured. Most importantly, Candy was covered in blood when she left the house.
The Confession and the Trial
The trial for this case was even stranger than the circumstances surrounding the murder. Even though Candy famously confessed to her alleged crime and the authorities were able to collect enough evidence to put her behind bars, she was found not guilty and released. However, in her statement, the woman claimed that she and the victim came to blows after Betty learned about her affair with her husband.
