Joe vs. Carole follows the second season of Wondery’s Over My Dead Body podcast and is based on the life of Joe Exotic, a zoo operator and a big cat breeder from Oklahoma and the issues between him and another big cat enthusiast, Carole Baskin.
The show is based on the true life story of Carole Baskin, an animals rights activist and CEO of the organization, Big Cat Rescue.
The development for the series started after the success of Netflix’s Tiger King back in 2020. Kate McKinnon was initially taken on-board for the role of Carole Baskin in 2020. By June 2021, most of the main cast was finalized including John Cameron Mitchell and the principal photography began by July of 2021.
